ANDREW " IMPEACHED" JACKSON

Andrew Jackson. Many of you may know him because he was the 7th president of the United States, or that he was a lawyer, or the fact that he owned slaves, or other reasons, but the specific reason I am writing this blog is to inform you on how and why he was impeached...no not put inside of a Peach but charged by the Legislative Body.

Andrew Jackson was a Lawyer, who then became a senator in 1861, and when the United Stated split he was the only senator to stay with the union, and in 1862 President Lincoln appointed him governor of military in Tennessee, then after the war he was made Vice President in 1864, he then took over presidency when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1865..yes bad times. Back to Andrew Jackson, as you may know Andrew Jackson was a supporter of slavery which comes into play because as one of his first acts of presidency he delivered a lenient reconstruction plan for the south who were defeated in the Civil War, which the mostly republican congress, didn't like, so they passed the Tenure of office act in 1867, which was passed so the president couldn't remove any officials without senatorial consent, but Jacksin decided to test that and remove the secretary of War Edwin W. Stanton (who was also the leading republican radical during the presidency of Lincoln) with Ulysses S. Grant, but the US Supreme Court refused it and Grant had to give the office back to Stanton.

In 1868 Jackson tried once more to remove Stanton by appointing General lorenzo Thomas to take his place, but Stanton barricaded his office in protest, and then the House of Representatives decided to move forward with the impeachment proceeding's and he was impeached on February 24th and his trial began on march 13th where he was nearly taken out of Office.

Andrew Jackson may possibly be one of the most controversial presidents to ever rule the country. He is up there with the likes of Bill Clinton, Donald Trump...oh according to my research it seems they all have something in common, what's that you might ask, well they have all been impeached. But Andrew jackson of course was the first, it was only a matter of time since he was for Slavery, which is what the war was fought about.
